Mount Dora double murder trial begins after years of delays

After years of delays, the accused murderer of a Mount Dora couple is finally going to trial.Opening statements began Monday in the first-degree murder trial of Vickie Williams, who is charged in the Dec. 31, 2022, fatal stabbings of Darryl and Sharon Getman.The trial follows multi-year postponements during which legal proceedings were stalled while Williams underwent mental competency assessments to determine whether she was fit to stand trial.Opening statements in the court proceedings started at 8:30 a.m.Channel 9 has a crew inside the courtroom and will provide updates on Eyewitness News.Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
