Wildwood employee accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the city

A City of Wildwood employee was arrested after an investigation found financial discrepancies worth around $23,000.Wildwood police arrested Gabriella Ascione on Monday. She was the parks and recreation events manager.The city says a report last month showed discrepancies in cash transactions in the city’s facility rental documents.The city says its parks and recreation director conducted an internal review and contacted police after confirming money was missing.Ascione faces charges of larceny and unauthorized use of a computer.Meanwhile, the city is now reviewing past transactions to identify any other potential issues. The city says it is also implementing new security protocols to enhance oversight of financial tasks in all of its departments.
